Getting Started

Register Your Account

When you are ready to begin, register your application with MailChimp:

Click on Sign Up Free button

Now fill Email, Username, Password & click on Get Started Button:

After it check your email and activate your account.

and follow below steps:

Step 1 : Enter your first name and last name. Click to continue button.

Step 2: Tell about your business like business name & website URL. click to continue.

Step 3 : Add you address details here, click to continue.

Step 4 : Does your business sell anything online if yes, click on yes otherwise no, & click to continue.

Step 5 : Share your business campaigns with followers and create posts on socials. you can skip it &

click to continue.

Step 6 : Now your account is ready, click to Lets Go!.

Step 7 : You are welcome in MailChimp admin panel, click on Onward button. Lets continue.

What Is API?

API stands for application programming interface. It can be helpful to think of the API as a way for different apps to talk to one another. For many users, the main interaction with the API will be through API keys, which allow other apps to access your account without you giving out your password.

How to generate or get API key from MailChimp ?

Now we will discuss about MailChimp API keys. API keys play most important role to interact with third party applications without having password. According to users permissions we can specify their API key. MailChimp have five users role : Owner, Admin, Author, Manager & Viewer. Owner & Admin is a king for all So both of them can invites other users and they can assign the user levels. Now let see how to grab a existing MailChimp API key and generate a new API key.

Here step by step procedure:

  • To connect your MailChimp Account to Third Party application, you will need your MailChimp API key.
  • Log into MailChimp (you must be a user with Manager level permissions). Managers can generate and view their own API keys. Users with administrator permissions can also see API keys of other account users.
  •  In MailChimp, click your profile name to expand the Account Panel, and choose “Account“.
  • Click the “Extras” drop-down menu and choose “API keys”.
  • Copy an existing API key or click the “Create A Key” button.
  • Name your key definitive, so you know what application uses that key.


In your MailChimp account, navigate to the Account page.
In the account drop-down menu, click Extras, and choose API Keys.

Under the “Developing an App?” heading, click Register and Manage Your Apps.
Click Register an App.
In the fields provided, input your application’s information and click Create.

When you created successfully, you will see an Application created message appear. At the end of the form you will see more information including the Client_ID and Client Secret. Do not share the Client_ID and Client Secret.

On this screen, you don’t need to save or change the information. Click Update or Cancel to go back to the Registered Apps page, or close the window.

Disable an API Key

If you’re worried that an API key has been compromised, or you no longer use the integration that was accessing your account through a particular API key, you can disable that API key.

Follow the steps below to disable the API key:

  • Click your profile name to expand the Account Panel, and choose Account.
  • Click the “Extras” drop-down menu and choose “API keys”.
  • Find the API key you want to disable, and toggle the slider in the Status column for that API key.
  • In the “Are you sure?” pop-up modal, click Disable.
